A Day to Remember

A Day to Remember

Today was our first Farmers Market and it was amazing!!  We felt so welcomed by the market manager, the other vendors, the employees of CDPHP and the surrounding businesses and the community.

There were so many great moments, from friends showing up to support us to a surprise visit from our Aunt and Uncle, but there was one special little visitor today that brought tears to my eyes. His name just happened to be Alex and he was probably 8 years old. His mom explained that he was allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and my Alex gave him a high 5 and said, me too.

He was eyeing the samples we had on the table as I talked with his mom and I said to him, “Everything on this table is safe for you. You can try anything you would like.”  His eyes grew wide with excitement and he looked to his mom for approval and she nodded. He helped himself to some samples and his smile was priceless.

I wish I had gotten a picture of Alex in his Captain America shirt and all the goodies his mom bought for him today, because he is the reason this Bakery exists. Going to a traditional bakery and picking out a special treat is not an option for kids (and adults) with food allergies and sensitivities. So many times today we heard from people saying, I came with my friend today and I didn’t think I’d be able to get anything because I’m vegan or gluten free or have an allergy.

We’re so honored to provide this service, and so grateful to be able to do it.

  • Hi there, this is Alex’s mom! He was so excited to be able to pick from ANYTHING on your table. Thank you for what you do and the smile it puts on Alex’s face. I will see you every Thursday this summer!
